Sitar

This sitar is sitting on a dresser abandoned in our upper hall. Originally I bought it for hubby but when SMK saw it she asked to have lessons. Within a short few weeks she learned what many take years to master. Her ustad, a Mr.Khan, was most impressed with her ability. Still my multitalented daughter preferred visual art and has chosen it for a career. Thus the sitar remains a dust collector. I hope someday she will make better use of her musical ability because it is a special gift.

What an amazing looking instrument. How interesting you even found someone to teach her. Maybe you should learn?

this is a new instrument to me, and when i saw your post title, i thought you misspelled Star. what a wonderful talent to have and also to be an artist, two talents for one person is not fair, maybe that is why i did not get one

Hi there, That Sitar is gorgeous... Hope your daughter will be able to take it someday and continue playing it...

I have heard them --and they have such a beautiful tone... I think they originally came from Persia, but are known now as an Indian Lute.... At least, that is what I remember....???

Hugs,
Betsy

What a beautiful instrument! My husband enjoys instruments, of which he owns several. Here are a few that come to mind -- a bango, guitar, mandolin, keyboard, organ and a didgeridoo. He plays each by ear.

They say, if you love your job then it isn't a job. I suppose if you don't love the sitar it would be a job to continue to play it. It looks like a beautiful instrument.

Perhaps you need to take up the instrument and learn to play.
