KITS and ADVENT

The gingerbread house will be ready by Sunday just in time for the first Advent. Do you do anything special each Sunday leading up to Christmas?

I have never, but what a nice idea. I do make little baskets of small gifts for my grandchildren and I will deliver them this Sunday. Maybe I will call that a start of a new tradition.

Every year my Mom would write a Christmas play. There were enough kids in my family to play all the parts. On Christmas Eve, we would go out caroling the neighborhood, then return home to perform for neighbors and relatives. Then we would open presents.

Christmas Morning we each had one little gift(we would draw each other's names as to who made a present for whom)to open under the tree. Then Dad would make pancakes, we would drink hot cocoa and play all day long--and it was a lovely lovely day.

Ah, what sweet memories.

When my kids were little, we would decorate for Christmas right after Halloween. The reason being, we were on the road performing so much, we weren't home long enough to enjoy the decorations.

For the past five or six years, we have been so short of funds, we started to make one another gifts. It takes us an entire morning to open them--one must admire all the skill and time taken for each special item.

We pray together, sing together, read the Christmas story together. Christmas has always been precious--even more so, now that Daddy is in heaven.

((hugs))

OH how neat... I love Gingerbread Houses... Why don't you show us a picture???

We love Advent --and even though we have devotions everyday, we do special prayers during Advent. It is such a special season.

Hugs,
Betsy

I saw your comment on Dee’s blog and came to visit yours. Your rose photos of your last post were so pretty. I enjoy taking photographs too. I don’t know much about advent (I am a Buddhist) it sounds like a nice Christmas custom. We celebrate Christmas, but more like they do in France – Papa Noël for the kids.

hallo, liebe Heidrun,

schon seit einigen Jahren "bauen" wir kein Lebkuchenhaus mehr! Eigentlich schade.

Wünsche dir und deinen Lieben eine wunderschöne Adventszeit!

LG Regina

Dear Heidrun, I do a lot of baking of yeast bread to give as gifts to family and friends. Kneading the dough is so enjoyable and makes me feel that I'm really doing something for those to whom I'm making the bread. Peace.
