USS Constitution

Buddy is at the wheel of the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world, launched in 1797. It still has active sailors and marines on board as ambassadors to the public. To tour it required security searches and valid passport ID.
"Old Ironsides" as it's also known sits in water in the Charlestown Navy Yard at 1 Constitution Road, just up the road from our hotel. It's closeness made it our first stop of the many historic sites that followed, all captivating our curiosity and delight.

Isn't Boston fantastic? I'm glad you are seeing the sights. I had a wonderful time visiting in April. Oh, the history and treasures you can find there, and the surrounding towns!

We used to enjoy the harbor in Baltimore and saw the big Constellation parked there. This is a big ship and has the double wheels—must have been a tough one to steer.

I got interested in Benedict Arnold a few months ago, and in the process of studying him, I've learned much more about that period than I ever knew before. I would love to see the places I've been reading about--especially Saratoga and West Point--places that I used to drive by without a thought.

The security to board the ship is amazing!

My husband has visited the Ironsides, but I have not. The older rigging ships have always held a fascination for me. I love history and love the early hand-crafted skills that most of us have lost in this day of buy-use-and throw away. Never been to Boston, but hope you are having an amazing trip!

Buddy looks proud standing on the ship. I also love the header of your blog showing your daughter and new hubby. Beautiful young woman and handsome young man.
